My experience with RMG up to this point has been reasonable. Worth my money if I use a Groupon, anyway. However, my most recent visit was more disappointing than any so far. This was mainly due to the greasy pile of gray shredded\mashed potatoes they are trying to pass off as hashbrowns. These things were purely disgusting. Those nasty 'ol 'browns were served with what was clearly a frozen slab of chicken fried chicken as well as two eggs that had puddles of grease sitting on them. Even with a Groupon this was a waste of money. I have no idea how they intend to stay in business serving "food" like this. As other reviews have mentioned there are plenty of other breakfast joints and every single one of them is better then this place. Don't waste your time or money. Did I forget to mention the incredibly weak coffee? Looks more like a cup a of black tea than coffee. Oh, and the owner who asked us to buy him breakfast. WTF?

So good! The booths were a little dirty, but the quality and taste of the food, matched with fantastic service, make it my new favorite local spot. The only thing that could make it better, is if they were open later, and they cleaned the windows and tables. The dishes and silverware were plenty clean though, and I guess that's what really matters! Best diner hash browns EVER and I've had my share.

Great food and relaxing atmosphere! Food is fresh, homemade and delicious. I enjoyed soup and roast beef da which, while my husband had an omelet and we both split a waffle for 'dessert'---one of the most delicious waffles either of us have ever had. Really, really good food at a reasonable price.

Fresh home cooking! I love it! Freshest hamburgers in town, never frozen. Can't wait to try the whole menu.

This place is amazing! The food is excellent and service is great as well. Tonight I had the famous chicken pot pie and omg it's to die for... Can't wait to go back for more yummy food! This is a place that won't break your pocket book and will leave you walking away fun if not with a to go container.

Always yummy and welcoming! Dad can get breakfast all day! Billy and Valerie and everyone here are so fabulous and friendly! Yay! Local yummy eats!!

I'm going to recommend this place over some of the others nearby. The portions surprised me, especially for the price! The food was fantastic: The early bird special which consists of hashbrowns, biscuits, and gravy. I ordered an over easy egg, a la carte. The hashbrowns have a citrus, peppery kick which I really think paired so well with the rest of the meal. What I enjoyed most was the home style feel and taste of the food. I'm not very high brow when it comes to American food, much less breakfast, but to say this place hit the spot would be an understatement.

I'm a big believer in not judging customer service after just one time, since you never know if your waiter is simply having a bad day. That being said, I've been here three times and each time, the staff goes out of their way to be deliberately rude. Not sassy, but RUDE. This latest time, I walked in with three friends. There was no sign that said please seat yourself, or wait to be seated. We stood around for a minute, wondering what to do, and the owner informed us, in a gruff voice, that if we wanted to eat at her diner, we'd have to sit down. Then, my boyfriend asked our waiter if she could tell him about the special. She told him, you can read, can't you? Its all on the menu. She also insulted the other friend we were with, to the point that it embarrassed him. Worst service I've ever had in SLC. I work for tips, so I rarely tip below 15 percent, but the only reason I even tipped her at all was because she brought out our food. Unless you like paying people to insult you, check out the other diners in Sugar house.

Highly recommend the tamales, eggs, & beans breakfast. I would have this every weekend if there weren't so many other breakfast joints to keep me busy. The Mrs. thoroughly enjoys the french toast, if you prefer sweet over savory, give that a try. No review of Rocky Mountain Grill would be complete without mentioning the service, which is...unique, to put it nicely, and definitely part of the experience. We have eaten in on bad days and experienced cranky service. More often, though, we are well taken care of, and picking up food to go limits the possibility of bad service.

The man ordered a blueberry waffle and the blueberries were huge. No canned berries. My tuna melt was so big I was only able to eat half. It needed some salt and pepper but I would order it again. The atmosphere is nothing special but the staff was super friendly.

Rocky Mountain Grill has a small-town diner restaurant feel and is in desperate need of a serious remodel -- the place is extremely dated and grungy looking. The floor is dirty, the lighting is bad, and the old oak tables and chairs are beat-up. The restaurant is also pretty loud because there kitchen is in the same area as the dining room. The menu is pretty typical diner offerings with some Mexican choices thrown in like tamales and huevos rancheros. I ordered the chili verde breakfast burrito and despite having a chili rojo sauce, and not a chile verde sauce, it was flavorful and pretty good. Unfortunately it wasn't very spicy, but hot sauce was available to spice it up as desired. My wife ordered the huevos rancheros, which she said was pretty good. Overall we didn't have a bad first meal at Rocky Mountain Grill. Service was fast and friendly. We were seated promptly, even on a busy Sunday morning. Our food was served up hot and fresh. I don't know if I'd go back, but if you want to try something new, why not give Rocky Mountain Grill a try? The prices are cheap, so even if you don't like it, you won't be out much.

Yummy, fast friendly, clean, casual! The staff and clientelle are the beating heart of Sugarhouse!

The environment was dingy and felt unclean. And food was mediocre at best. The staff was friendly but not very attentive. They could really do more with the place it's to bad they'll probably never do it.

Been here a few times in the past. Was never overly impress or disappointed just simple breakfast food. I decided to go back out of convenience but this time I was extremely disappointed. Prices are too high for its hole in the wall style.OTC is cheaper for a much better meal. Bacon was undercooked. The lemon seasoning on the hash browns was awful I took a few bites and was done. The eggs were good and the waitresses are extremely nice. It's unfortunate this place isn't better cause i live in the neighborhood

Wow we loved this place. Wonderful friendly service, and very generous food portions. I got the huevos rancheros and it was AMAZING. The sandwich my husband got looked great too, he loved it (and my huevos rancheros). Highly reccommended.

Pancakes, juevos ranchero, omelets, all exactly what you would hope for from a diner. Staff is as friendly as can be. We come here often and will continue to do so.

Such a pleasant experience. About as friendly as it gets and the hamburger and fries were awesome! Thick, tasty burger and real homemade fries! Definitely recommend and we will return again!

The chicken fried steak, pancakes & atmosphere were all great - but what really made this place awesome was the sweet, mature waitress, Betty. She was super attentive & amicable - even feeding the ducks!

I really liked this place because it wasn't too busy and my Mexican omelette was delicious. The waitress and cooks were really friendly also.

Yeah, only 2 stars but I'll go back again at some point for a basic breakfast. Corned beef hash clearly came from a can...Next time I'll try an omelette or something.

Rocky Mountain Grill is made up of sugar, spice, and sassy waitresses. I really like this place because it has a good ol' diner feel with attitude to match. The food is your typical diner food and they do it pretty well. If you want food that is not experimented with then this is a safe place to go to. I got the french toast and it was simply done the way it should be simply done. Good portion size for breakfast too. Not too small, not too big, just right. The waitress that made me absolutely love this place is named Betty. Her personality is so vivacious and lively. To some, she may seem bitter, but to me she's fierce. You go girl!

I have never had a bad experience with the food nor the service at RMG. I love this neighborhood gem! The staff is so personable and friendly. They make the biggest and most delicious sandwiches around. I haven't been able to try breakfast yet, but now that they're open 24 hours on weekends, I know I'll try it soon. And you should too!

Super friendly (in a smart-assy way, sometimes) staff. Awesome diner food. Convenient Sugarhouse location. Amazing coffee. This place has it all! If you like Denny's, then slap yourself... Denny's Sucks! What's wrong with you!! I've only had breakfast here and have loved it every time. It's nothing fancy. It's just good old-fashioned bacon and eggs, etc. I really dig it.

Great food, great company and a great location. The heart of Sugar House.

  • Sarah C.

Not terrible, but not very good by any stretch of the imagination. The best way to describe it is that their breakfast is like the sort of breakfast you make when you're just learning how to cook. Things aren't awful, but they sure as hell aren't very good, and everything is definitely overcooked. Interior is very dirty... and not in the fun hole-in-the-wall way. This place is just depressing. The only good thing was a better-than-usual waitress... who I hope ends up working somewhere better. The owner is rude. I like sassy people, but she's not sassy... just tacky and rude. Sometimes I do agree with one reviewer that the coffee is really good for diner coffee... but not worth going back for, iMHO.

I had never planned on returning after the last review, but after the owner messaged me some time ago, I finally took a chance to get back over there recently, as I wanted to give some time for the changes mentioned in his message to "take". Walking in, it seems they are readily apparent. Gone was the messy floors and windows, other than taped up "Help Wanted" and a printoff about adding an extra dollar if patrons wanted to use a credit card. The tables were re-arranged very nicely. The place was not clotted with nor smelled at all of a grease fire in action. So far, so good. Menus were redone and considerably lightened, basically front and back, one side breakfast, the other lunch. So far, so good, though the menu selection was frankly kind of dull. The only remote "problem" here was the mess around the back door of the restaurant with debris and old cigarette butts littered on the back part and up the stairs. Wait staff was extremely friendly, perhaps because this place was very light in terms of patrons (perhaps because of the holiday weekend...perhaps). I hesitate to use the word "incompetent", since she seemed very well-meaning, so maybe I'll just call it fumbling. Rather than take our drink orders, she took them one drink at a time, each time leaving to go see if such and such drink selection either existed or was actually available. This was a bit off-putting, but we rolled with it. Then came ordering time and so I asked what was in the corned beef hash. She didn't know, but thought the dish looked good when serving it to other people. Right. No effort to find out, for some reason, but fine. Pass on that and so I took a cue from Elle K. and went with the biscuits and gravy. Kid had pancakes, wife had a burrito of some kind, which is also what I think she had last time. Pancakes were ok, but nothing too special one way or another. They were served or attempted to be served inexplicably with a single green grape on top, which had a distinct tendency to roll. Wife and my dishes served with a slice of watermelon. Weird, but what the Hell, I guess. Hashbrowns, which came with and which were excellent last time, were awful this time. Wife likened them more to a mush closer to mashed potatoes. The flavoring was just not there, in my view. Gravy was bland, even with pepper (which oddly make it taste more like a beef gravy). Biscuits didn't taste quite stale, but kept breaking into crumbs whenever I tried to spear a bite. Most annoying. They are also very, very dense. Bacon was apparently cooked first and left to sit in grease. It was served cold and slicked completely with cold grease. Nothing that came out of the kitchen looked particularly good, actually. I can live with sometimes inept service, when it's this friendly and one common thread in my reviews is that I'm a bit fan of effort and the server was trying really hard, so that gets a pass. I can live with giving me substandard, institutional hot tea. But food that is delivered unbearably slow and goes from barely pushing average to outright mediocre...I can't dance to that. If this place was in a much smaller town somewhere, it would be more acceptable, but there's no way this flies here, as it's not even remotely competitive to the places jamming them in (Bruges across the street, for instance, was SRO the entire time we were there) or frankly even somewhere like Dee's. There is tons and tons of potential here and I think that's what this place wants to be...a sort of small-town greasy-spoon diner set in a big city, but the food quality has to go up a lot higher if they're going to have that truncated of a menu. If not, they're probably looking at a lot of one-visit-and-outs.

Good food, but the most memorable part is the owner, Margie! I was just driving through on a cross-country trip and got completely lost! I sat down and ordered the French dip which was served quickly with yummy fries (more than I could finish) and Margie gave me directions and drew me a darn good map to help me get back on my way! Relaxed, "home-cooking" atmosphere. Highly reccommended! There's parking and an extra entrance around the back of the building. I'd say it's about $6-$11 per person if my memory serves me right.

used to like this place, mostly due to betty, lori, and hector. it's basic diner food - good for breakfast. we don't go here any longer because it's filthy and marge is obnoxious.

Not bad, in a pinch. Girlfriend and I made the mistake of heading out for breakfast to Ruth's on Labor Day weekend at 10:30. Oops. Anyway after balking at hour waits at all of SLC's "premier" brekkie places, we saw this driving by and took a chance. No wait at all on a Sunday mid-morning. Nice! Ambiance was pretty much nil, and kind of expected. Tacky interior decor, lots of folksy to go 'round. Relatively small interior, just tables, no booths (probably not great for a big group). Service staff was very friendly/timely, and we were obviously amongst a crowd of regulars. Prices were run-of-the-mill breakfast diner, as was the offered fare. Not much went off the beaten path - your general assortment of eggs, omelets, French toast, bacon, etc. The food itself wasn't bad, but wasn't good. Obviously rehydrated hash browns, boring sourdough toast, and frozen shrimp in my omelet coupled with relatively flavorless coffee. It's tough to make a horrible breakfast, and the Rocky Mountain Grill managed to avoid that distinction. Would I go back? Probably wouldn't plan on it, but in a convenience situation like this morning, I can deal.

I got biscuits and gravy because it's my go-to dish. The biscuits lived up to their reputation (award-winning, or so I was told), but the gravy was very sweet. Not savory whatsoever. Did not come close to topping Park Cafe or competitors who use more savory gravy and spicy Italian sausage for a mild kick. The prices were good but not as good as Over The Counter cafe. It was a fun adventure and our server had a lot of personality and gave us a lot of attention, but I think I'll turn my eye to trusted favorites and new brunch places.
